Library Website: Visual Resources Services

Image Digitization

The SMFA Library and Visual Resources department can create digital image files from print resources-- books, photographic prints, exhibition brochures, etc.

General information

  • This service is intended to support classroom instruction. We regrettably cannot shoot images of student or faculty work intended for personal websites, portfolios, etc.
  • Image files will be transferred to the requestor via SMFA Google Drive and will be uploaded to the SMFA Library Visual Resources Collection in Artstor.
  • We cannot digitize images that are already available via Artstor, either in the SMFA Library's collection or in the general Artstor digital library. On the plus side, these images are available for you to download and use in classroom presentations.
  • Please note that turnaround time for requests will vary depending on the image count. We aim to complete most requests in 2-3 weeks.

If interested, please contact Ashley Peterson (apeterson@smfa.edu, 617-369-3653) to get started!

Personal Digital Image Management

We can help you manage your personal collections of digital teaching images via our Artstor Shared Shelf platform. This allows you to:

  • Upload your images to Artstor's secure servers
  • Catalog information about your images, in as brief or exhaustive manner as you prefer.
  • Save image groups and create presentation slide shows via Artstor
  • Share image groups easily with students and colleagues via Artstor
