Zines and Alternative Publishing: SMFA Library Zine Grant

Want to make zines?

The SMFA Library Zine Production Grant awards funds in the form of pre-loaded photocopy cards to students, faculty, and staff interested in producing DIY publications, including zines, monographs, artist’s books, mini-comics, pamphlets, posters, and more. Copies of all projects made via Zine Grants are added to the our Zine Collection.

How do I apply?
Submit a proposal to the SMFA Library via e-mail to Darin Murphy at dmurphy@smfa.edu, or drop it off in person at the SMFA Library. This proposal must include the following:

  • One paragraph describing each publication. Include a second paragraph if you are proposing a series.
  • An estimated budget, taking into account the cost of using school photocopiers: 7 cents per black & white page and 25 cents per color page.
  • An estimated number of editions, including 2 for the Library.

One copy will be added to the SMFA Library Zine Collection and one will be sent to the Nagoya/Boston Museum of Fine Arts Library in Japan.

  • If the publication is already in production, provide a copy for review (these will be returned to you after reviews are made)
  • Your name and contact information.
  • A firm date of completion for the project

If your project is approved you will be provided with pre-loaded copy cards in $20.00 increments to meet the needs of your budget.
